A BOULIA resident has 250,000 reasons to smile after winning one quarter of a million dollars on a scratchy last week.

The winning crossword scratchy ticket was bought by Min Min Store staff member Shanna Knox last Thursday from her work.

It has been more than 10 years since a Boulia resident has won big on a scratchy ticket, Min Min Store Owner Bob Spilsbury said.

“I think the last person that got lucky was 11 or 12 years ago, that was around $25,000 which was pretty big,” he said.

“We’ve certainly never had anyone win this much money.”

He said Ms Knox was over the moon when she realised how much she had won.

“It’s good to see someone local win off one of them, it was pretty exciting when we found out.

“Everyone at the store was pretty excited for her.”

Ms Knox said she was going to spend some of her winnings and save the rest “for a sunny day”.

She said she would also help her mother out with some debts, buy a new car that would be big enough for her son and dog and make this Christmas the best she could for her son.
