PHIL Barwick says his team is ready to run the Mount Isa City Council from day one if they are elected on April 28.
Mr Barwick, mayoral candidate for the United Progressives, said his team's combination of current and previous council experience, plus long-time community, sporting and business involvement bodes well for his team's capacity to "lead the city in the right direction".
"We have a mixture of candidates on our team from members who have served more than 20 years on council such as Graeme right through to fresh faces who will offer new ideas and a new direction, which includes myself," Mr Barwick said.
"I want the Mount Isa Community to know, that we are here to bring the city back to life, and generate a lot more interest from governments and developers.
"The (former council) UPA was responsible for the beautification of this city as well as the development of Healy Heights and the Family Fun Park, and when we get back into council we will continue and advance our vision for Mount Isa even further."
Yesterday Mr Barwick announced his team to run under the United Progressives Association (UPA) banner for the 2012 local election.
The team will be made up of current councillors Jean Ferris and Gary Asmus, joined by Graeme Saunders and Brett Peterson who have previously served on the Mount Isa City Council, as well as newcomers Joyce McCulloch and George Fortune.
He said three members - Ms McCulloch (rodeo), George Fortune (fishing classic) and Brett Peterson (mining expo) - have been heavily involved in three of the region's biggest community events each year.
"The team could not be stronger."
He said the team's vision includes identifying and developing community facilities such as heating the town pool, bringing regular maintenance and beautification regimes back into the council, including upgrading essential infrastructure, working closely with positional developers such as Legend to get development opportunities underway in the city, halting large rate rises and getting the Mount Isa City Council out of debt.
"I have extensive experience in applying for grants as well as managing businesses successfully, and with my experienced and dedicated team we will be able to get the council back on its feet."
Mr Barwick said he believed Mount Isa needed some fresh blood to lead the city in the right direction.
"I don't care too much for people who get caught up in political fights and forget about the big picture.
"Myself and my team are here to act and to get on with making Mount Isa an attractive and liveable city for everyone."
