Bring on the Christmas singers

03 Nov, 2009 10:43 AM
CHRISTMAS carols are part of everyone’s festive season.

But unless more people put their hands up to join the community choir, the Xstrata Carols by Candlelight may be without the Christmas tunes.

Choral coordinator Ken Glanville said he wanted Mount Isa to get on board.

“We’re looking for everything, singers, musicians, helpers – we won’t turn anyone away. Even if you don’t think you have the best voice, give it a try. There’s singing parts for beginner, intermediate and advanced singers, and of course we’d love to have some professionals on board too.”

Mr Glanville said he wanted to have 60 people in the community choir.

“Hopefully it will be bigger and better than ever. At the end of the day it’s all about getting together and sharing in the Christmas spirit,” he said.

“We want kids, adults and all different cultures and church groups to join in the celebration. It’d be great if we could get up to 100 and bring down the roof with song.”

Among the Christmas repertoire are all the favourites including Silent Night, Jingle Bell Rock, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and more.

“It’s all music that people know and love, so it won’t be hard to learn.”

Rehearsals for the community choir kick off tonight from 7pm at the Victory Church, Flynn Street.

To register interest, visit the Mount Isa Civic Centre, or just turn up at rehearsals.

Carols by Candlelight is on at Tony White Oval from 5pm on November 29.

Committee member Jean McTaggart said it would be a great family event.

“There’s entertainment, fireworks, food and even Santa will make an appearance.”
