MOUNT ISA’S Seventh-day Adventist Church turned 40 at the weekend. The church celebrated the milestone with a weekend full of festivities.
Pastor Malcolm Eastwick said the weekend was an opportunity to reflect on the importance of the church and its teachings.
“It was a special weekend to reflect on what Christ has done for us and also for people to share their own memories and reflect on the church’s history,” he said.
Mr Eastwick said the church welcomed back people from Townsville and Brisbane for the celebrations.
From the feast to the party games to the food auction, Mr Eastwick said the community got into the spirit of the weekend.
“A case of mangoes we were auctioning had two people bidding for them. It started off at $20 and they kept bidding over each other. It finally ended up going for $166 – all for a case of mangoes,” he said.
Mr Eastwick said he was glad to see the refurbishments at the church were completed in time for the celebrations.
“It gave us an opportunity to renovate the church and make it look really nice,” he said.
