Coal finds near Hughenden

28 Dec, 2011 08:22 AM
COAL company Guildford Coal has announced drilling in the North West has uncovered "significant coal seams".

A statement by the miner to the Australian Securities Exchange said drilling had uncovered a coal seam 13.4 metres thick at its White Mountain project near Hughenden.

The discovery was made at a depth of more than 200 metres.

The company predicted the seams would be accessible by both open cut and underground mining.

Guildford's Queensland tenements cover an area of about 20,000 square kilometres.

The miner is exploring in the North West for thermal coal for export.
