CUPPA'S on Ramsay has broken the coffee drought in Cloncurry with its opening on Wednesday last week.
Cafe owner Jennifer Heatherington said she had to turn about 40 people away at 2pm because the kitchen couldn't cope with the demand from hungry punters.
"I do hope that hasn't deterred people from coming back," she said, explaining that some of the kitchen equipment had malfunctioned on the first day.
It's been 16 or 17 months since Cloncurry had a dedicated cafe and the locals have shown their approval of the opening with a bumper patronage on opening day.
Mrs Heatherington who was formerly the financial manager at the Cloncurry Shire Council decided to open the cafe because she wanted a job where she could include her children.
It was not only her children she was concerned about, but the teenagers in Cloncurry had nowhere to go to meet their friends.
"They had to hang out at the BP," she said.
Cuppa's on Ramsay could be a haven for kids, somewhere they could meet their friends and have a milk shake, she said.
"It'll be a place where young mums can meet as well."
By 4 o'clock on the first day she estimated she'd made well over 100 coffees.
The chicken matchstick salad and the deluxe burgers were the most popular food orders.
"The day started off peacefully at 7 o'clock, but by 11 we were really rushing," she said.
