Directors set for premiere

06 Nov, 2009 08:57 AM
IT will be a night of glitz and glamour at Spinifex State College’s Short Film Festival and Awards night tonight.

Paralleling a Hollywood event, the night will kick off with the nominees entering the venue via the red carpet. They’ll then take part in interviews and later the screenings will occur.

From documentaries, to soap opera, music videos and movie trailers, the event has it all.

Film, television and new media teacher Chris Metcalf said the event was budding film makers’ chance to show off their talent to the rest of the city.

“In big cities there are lots of these sorts of events, but out kids here don’t get much opportunity to attend,” he said.

“That’s why we started this event last year and it was a great success – but from what I’ve seen of the entries this year is going to be bigger and better.”

Ten finalists’ films will screen at the film spectacular, and it is up to the audience vote as to which takes out each category and the best film of the night.

Mr Metcalf said they were a very talented bunch.

“There are some very good films, which would certainly stack up well against those produced by students in the cities,” he said. He said some may even be entered in film festivals.

The Spinifex Short Film Festival and Awards night is on at the school’s senior campus multimedia centre, The Hayshed, from 6pm tonight.
