PAULA Skinner will brave the shave this year for the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave.
The Mount Isa born and raised mother of two said it was her sister, Donna, who inspired her after Donna was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma last September.
It's a cancer originating from white blood cells in the body and has seen Donna undergo chemotherapy treatments once a fortnight since September.
Poignantly, the day of Paula Skinner's shave marks the date of Donna's final treatment.
"Nearly all of her cancer has gone from completely riddling her body, to now only in a small part of her chest, which is great news," Ms Skinner said.
"My sister has shaved for a cure twice before she was told she had cancer last year, and now it's my turn to raise money and brave shaving off my long locks."
She said the costs for cancer treatments were outrageous.
Ms Skinner plans to raise $5000, with donations tins at Turanga Butchery and Hair by Dezign.
"I am asking the Mount Isa community to get behind me and donate to the worthy cause."
She said her children Jade, 12, and Michelle, 15, were greater supporters and were looking forward to finally having longer hair than mum.
Many North Western residents with a strong community spirit will go under the clippers to bare their bald scalps and colour their hair for the the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave between March 15 and 17 this year.
The Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland is a not-for-profit organisation and does not receive ongoing government funding.
