Graziers going nowhere

02 Feb, 2012 06:52 AM
GRAZIERS on stations around Cloncurry reported severe flooding with some believing they would be shut in for several weeks.

Constable David O'Brien from the Cloncurry Police said he was getting a number of calls asking about the condition of the roads in the area, but so far no calls from stranded motorists.

A severe thunderstorm warning for flash flooding was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology's Queensland Regional Office yesterday afternoon.

The warning related to parts of the Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Central West and Maranoa and Warrego Forecast Districts.

"Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce very heavy rainfall and flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours," the report stated.

Locations which might be affected included Georgetown, Hughenden, Richmond, Croydon, Marathon, Forsayth, Aramac, Muttaburra, Havelock and Mitchell.
