THE Minister for Health Geoff Wilson will join Member for Mount Isa Betty Kiernan to officially open stage one of the $65.2 million Mount Isa Hospital redevelopment at this morning.
Stage One comprises the construction of a new Block D to house mental health, oral health and outpatient services; a new building to house a doctors' lounge and external works including road works, car parking and landscaping.
In September last year Premier Anna Bligh announced that the project had progressed so well that significant savings had been found, freeing up $8.55 million for additional services including an MRI machine and building.
The additional works included upgrading the operating theatre complex and central sterilising department; refurbishing the intensive care unit and children's ward; refurbishing the maternity ward; painting and other refurbishing work to the pathology department; replacing the flooring in the surgical ward and refurbishing the hospital laundry.
Work on the extra projects are due to be finished next year.
