Isa launch for book

06 Nov, 2009 07:53 AM
MOUNT Isa author Cheryl Campbell will launch her book “The WOTS family” at the Colonial Newsagency along Camooweal Street.

Readers will be able to purchase copies of the book on Saturday at the newsagency between 9am and 12pm.

The autobiographical book deals with the tragic story of family misfortune as victims of government legislation removing children from their families.

The book launch is timely - Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will next week make an apology to the survivors of some 500,000 children who were institutionalised in orphanages and homes between 1930 and 1970.

Those survivors, including 7000 child migrants, have been dubbed “the Forgotten Australians.”

Ms Campbell said she hoped the book would encourage other people who suffered a similar fate to tell their story.
