Katter backs independent

18 Mar, 2009 06:58 PM
FEDERAL Member for Kennedy Independent Bob Katter has endorsed Keith Douglas Jr as the man to keep the politicians honest in Brisbane after Saturday’s state election.

Keith Douglas Jr is running as an Independent.

Stating that the other candidates for the seat of Mount Isa are “muzzled” by their political parties, Mr Katter said that uranium mining and irrigation development were the top issues for the region.

“Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Richmond and Hughenden will be the biggest growth centres in Queensland if our uranium and irrigation projects go ahead,” Mr Katter said.

“In the last fortnight Anna Bligh said no, definitely no to uranium mining and stopped any hope of irrigation, declaring even more wild rivers (code for no more dams). Half the gulf was under water when she was saying no more dams.”

Mr Katter said voting for the ALP was a vote against uranium mining and irrigation.

“With the shabby way Tony McGrady’s been treated by local ALP factions, Keith could have got ALP endorsement. He could have gone LNP. I believe the reason he didn’t is he realises the only way he is free to represent us in Brisbane is as an Independent.”
