HEALTHY food and recipe booklets will be available at the Living with Lead Alliance community information session on Monday, 7 November at the Terrace Gardens, Duchess Road Mount Isa.
The Living with Lead Alliance is launching its 2011-2013 Action Plan and 2010 -2011 annual report along with the recipe booklet and other brochures on reducing the amount of lead absorbed into the body.
Chairman of the Living with Lead Alliance and Member for Mount Isa Betty Kiernan said the recipes were high in iron, zinc, calcium and Vitamin C as these could all help protect children against high blood lead levels.
"One of the key indicators related to elevated lead levels in children is to do with diet, so the Alliance, along with Queensland Health has developed this recipe book which is very clear about what families need in terms of vitamins and minerals to help reduce the amount of lead absorbed," Mrs Kiernan said.
A child with an empty stomach can absorb seven times more lead than a child that has eaten, according to the Living with Lead Alliance website.
The community information session is on Monday, November 7, 3-5pm, Terrace Gardens, Duchess Road Mount Isa.
