The Tourism Queensland initiative was launched last week with the help of 20 Outback tourism operators and included a performance by country music star Tania Kernaghan and whip cracking demonstrations.
Outback Queensland managers, including Mount Isa Rodeo manager Tricia Esdaile, attended the event with visitors interested in the Xstrata Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo.
“At the event I spoke about being a Brisbane girl and how I have become an Outback convert to the star filled nights, the wide open spaces, the ancient landscapes, the amazing colours of the earth and the lakes, which are filled with huge barra all year round,” Ms Esdaile said.
She said she emphasised the fact rodeo was the best time to come and experience the Outback.
“The Xstrata Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo is an iconic event to experience and it’s the largest rodeo in the southern hemisphere, where city meets country, east meets west and man meets beast,” she said.
Ms Esdaile said while the Outback offered a real alternative for holidays the launch was a perfect opportunity to demonstrate to people in the city that they could have a real adventure by planning a trip to the Outback with the Isa rodeo as a drawcard.
“It was a great networking opportunity to meet with tourism operators, marketing experts, Outback operators and travel writers, and to tell them all how the town comes alive each rodeo season,” she said.
“And thanks to sponsorship from Skytrans I was able to give flights and tickets as a prize which was won by a travel writer.”
