MOUNT Isa's Salvation Army Family Store has closed.
The doors were shut "indefinitely" last Friday after the premises failed to meet occupational health and safety requirements.
There are currently no plans to relocate the service in the near future.
The charity store, which provided discounted clothing to those in need, had become "unworkable", Mount Isa Salvation Army Major Dennis Bryant said.
"There are a number of issues with the building which make it unhealthy and hazardous to operate in," he said.
Mr Bryant added that the state of the building made it unsafe for anyone inside, which led to its closure.
"We take seriously the duty of care that we have not only to the staff and volunteers of our store but also to those in the community who come into our store."
However, Mr Bryant said its closure was disappointing and a loss to the community.
"Of course we would want it open," he said.
"The store provides a good price for people to buy their clothes and it also brings in income for the organisation to use in other areas.
"The closure is very disappointing for the community but unfortunately something that had to be done."
Despite no plans to relocate its current services, Mr Bryant said he hoped the service would be back by the end of the year.
"We definitely want the service to return but these things take time," he said.
"Hopefully we will have something organised by the end of the year."
Mr Bryant advised people to donate their clothes to other charities until the services returned.
"We'll be having a garage sale in the coming weeks to sell the remaining clothing that the store has," he said.
Until the store reopened, the Salvation Army would continue working with the community through other services, Mr Bryant said.
"We will be continuing with our corps (church), welfare assistance and other programs that operate on a weekly basis."
