NOMINATIONS are open for the Zonta Clubs of Mount Isa and The North West Star Woman of Achievement, and the Young Woman of Achievement Awards for 2012.
Each year Zonta showcases Mount Isa women who have achieved personal success, at a special dinner in March to celebrate International Women's Day.
Mount Isa Zonta Club president Sue Wicks said the awards recognised the women in the Mount Isa community who pursue, strive and make a difference.
"The recipient will have made a significant contribution to the local or wider community through community involvement, business or professional achievement, personal achievement, membership in clubs or organisations, or other activities worthy or recognition."
Mrs Wicks said the main criterion was their contribution to the community and the nominees in the categories could either be put forward or nominate themselves.
"For the Young Woman of Achievement Award, the age has now been raised to 25 years," Mrs Wicks said.
"We're looking to recognise their contribution to the community either in academic or sporting areas or other areas of the community."
Mrs Wicks said the awards generated a great deal of interest in the community.
"Last year we were excited to receive over 20 nominations for each category.
"It shows the awards are still being recognised by the people of Mount Isa."
Mother of five Theresa Braithwaite won the 26th Woman of Achievement Award last year for her work securing a $1.5 million grant for the Copper
City Tennis Club, volunteering at her school's tuckshop, rather than seeing it close down, all the while battling cancer.
Last year's Zonta's Young Woman of Achievement was 15-year-old Holly Johnstone who received outstanding results both at school and on the sporting field.
Holly was also an ambassador for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Nominations close at 4pm Friday, March 2 and nomination forms can be collected from The North West Star, Camooweal Street, or the VIP Outlet in Miles Street, Mount Isa. An electronic copy of the nomination forms can be requested by emailing editor@starnews.com.au
