POLICE are closing in onvandals and thieves who broke into the Mount Isa Rugby League Clubfor the second time in three months.
On both occasions the thieves targeted alcohol.
Queensland Rugby League development officer for the North West, Scott Kyle arrived at work on Friday morning and noticed a roller door on the club's tuck shop had been jemmied open.
"I had a walk around and saw the security lights had been smashed; they'd torn out the screen door and tried to break in at the back, but that door's too solid, so they used a crowbar to jemmy up the roller door," Mr Kyle said.
Thieves had broken into the bar early in November and that had been "bomb-proofed", but now the thieves had targeted the tuck shop.
Mount Isa Rugby League Club would have to front the cost of repairs on top of the fundraising they did for the juniors, the All Blacks carnivals and seniors events.
The club also provided the venue as a place for other not for profit organisations to use.
"It's just heartbreaking. We're trying to do the right thing by the community and a few people are not doing the right thing by us."
Sergeant Warren Hess said they need to get the damage fixed before the juniors kicked off in March. In April the club is hosting the Indigenous All Stars game. Anyone with any information could contact Policelink on 131 444 or alternatively Crimestoppers on 1800333000.
