If it’s not bad enough that the north-west is short of butchers, bakers and candlestick makers – we can also add UFO hunters to the list.

The lack of ufologists in our region is so dire that UFO Research Queensland has made an urgent plea for someone interested in little green men in the north-west to get into contact with them.

UFO Research Queensland president Sheryl Gottschall said she believed there were strange objects in our skies going unreported.

She said while Queensland had more than 100 reported UFO sightings each year, many in the outback were not reported because there was no one to report sightings to.

Interested in applying? Well, good people skills are a must.

“People are often very confused about what they have seen and so effective listening is important when dealing with them,” she said.

“Also you should have an interest in the subject matter.”

You should also be able to keep accurate documentation of all the reports.

However, don’t expect a big pay packet – it is strictly on a volunteer basis only.

She said there was a different psychology in the outback which discouraged people from reporting strange things they see in the night skies. She said, however, with the encouragement of a local, more outback dwellers might be enticed to come forward.

“Locals tend to keep it in the area,” she said.
