 Tough task for Townview

Tough task for Townview

10 Feb, 2012 07:03 AM
TOWNVIEW CNW faces the tough task of slowing the Western Bulls' charge when the sides meet in Round 13 of the Bell and Moir Toyota Mount Isa Cricket Association on Saturday.

It will be a case of the table-topping Bulls looking to trample the cellar-dwellers at Sunset Oval.

The key for Townview CNW will be to find a way to dismiss in-form Bulls batsman Jamie Stewart early.

The all-rounder has stubbornly refused to give up his wicket in his past two innings and in the process paved the way for his team's success.

Stewart will be supported by Mick Hall and talented newcomer Marty McGauran. All three players give Bulls captain Adrian Morrisby a source of runs, and can also contribute with the ball.

Hall did not have his best performance last week but is capable of decimating a batting line-up, McGauran proved to be economical, while Stewart took five wickets.

Add Kyle Anderson, spinners Nick Diamond and Jye Graham and the Bulls look a well-rounded side heading towards the finals.

Townview CNW was well beaten by Cavaliers last week after a middle order collapse left them reeling.

If the good work from Dash Coetzee and Gavin Maher at the top of the order can be backed up, Townview CNW has the talent to tame the Bulls.

Wickets will need to come early from Coetzee, Billy Bailey and Paul Scarsi in attack.

Panthers and Black Stars meet in the other Round 13 game at Captain Cook Oval.

After impressing in the Twenty20 format, Black Stars will be looking to take that form into the longer version of the game.

Coming off the bye, Black Stars' formidable batting line-up will need to fire. Ian Barlow, Troy Stacy, Nathan Giles and Wayne Shipley will be able to take more time to build a match-winning innings.

Panthers showed they were capable of racking up a big score when Chas Eichmann, Tubby Allen and Adrian Airey contributed to the side's 219-run total last weekend.

With a bowling attack that has shown a greater ability to take wickets, Black Stars appear to have the edge as both teams look to consolidate a place in the top four.

Matches start at 12.45pm.
