THE North West Queensland Soccer Zone is focusing on uncovering and developing junior talent in Mount Isa this year.
Outgoing NWQSZ president Clayton Stansbie said the organisation would hold its annual general meeting on February 12 where a new president and committee would be elected.
After two years as president, Stansbie said it was time for a new face, but he would continue to play a significant role with development of junior representative players in Mount Isa.
"I won't be the president but the NWQSZ will continue under new leadership to grow and develop football in Mount Isa," Stansbie said.
"The role of the NWQSZ is to actively strengthen the sport and this season will see a number of initiatives."
On the radar will be another visit from A-League stars after former Cloncurry and Mount Isa junior Casey Wehrman's successful visit in 2011.
"I think for our juniors, getting to meet and be coached by the top players in the game is extremely important," Stansbie said.
"There will hopefully be some trips to Cairns and Townsville for our junior representative players and the NWQSZ will be looking to put an emphasis on school soccer, working with schools to send teams away."
Also on the list of things to do is improving the grounds and infrastructure of the soccer fields on Sports Parade.
Stansbie said the NWQSZ would like to work with other sporting organisations to build a system to fund and support emerging sports stars from all sports.
"We all know how hard it is due to expenses and distances for young athletes from Mount Isa to get to compete against the best in the state so we would like to see if we can address that issue," Stansbie said.
Stansbie said soccer was the most popular sport in the city and the NWQSZ was looking for enthusiastic members to ensure it continued to grow.
