LAST week's storms may have left the Mount Isa racetrack looking worse for wear but organisers are ready to try again this week.
The five race meet was scheduled for Saturday but almost 100 millimetres of rain ensured that didn't happen, forcing cancellation due to track conditions.
The Mount Isa Race Club considered rescheduling the meet to Sunday but further rain prevented the move.
Mount Isa Race Club president Peter Inwood said despite the uncertainty last weekend, competitors were definitely ready to race on Friday.
"I don't think it'll rain this weekend, they're only predicting between one and five millimetres so the track will be better by Friday," he said.
Inwood said the sandy base of the Mount Isa track ensured a quick spring-back time from the wet weather.
"It doesn't take much work to get our track back and ready to race, ours gets fixed up pretty quickly," he said.
A crew was at the racecourse yesterday morning checking the track and giving the horses a final run.
Inwood said the change from last weekend to Friday afternoon left only three competitors unable to attend.
"A couple of people that had to travel from Longreach aren't able to make it now but that's only three. We've got five races and 43 nominators so we're expecting it to be a good day," he said.
"The races will start at about 3pm so it gives people time to knock off early from work and enjoy a bit of a drink before Christmas."
Gates will open at the Mount Isa Race Club on Friday at 11am.
