A FAMILY dominated crowd gathered in Dajarra to attend the town’s annual rodeo festival on Saturday.
Around 300 people turned up for the event with the healthy crowd being enthralled to the battles between local riders and stock.
With the drought affecting the schedule due to minimal access to quality stock, the local stations were called upon to provide bulls and broncs with local riders – predominantly station workers – battling it out.
Local station employee Craig Thomas said the weekend was enjoyable for all that attended the event with added entertainment adding further excitement to the festivities.
“We had majority local riders riding local stock and they put on a good show,” Thomas said.
“We don’t have any big names but we get a fair few blokes from the stations that ride and a couple of guys who rode in Mount Isa rodeo and other local meets, which makes it a real local event.”
“We had the tug of war on as well plus the music from the Cross Colours so it was quite an enjoyable weekend.”
“By having a lot of entertainment free, families were just drawn to the event… It was really good weekend.”
Dajarra Rodeo president Mo Wright was ecstatic with the success of the event saying that everything went to plan.
“It ran all smoothly and we were happy with how the whole weekend went.”
“It was a great day for all.”
While all the action took place on Saturday, riders and locals gathered at the Dajarra Hotel on Sunday to continue with the celebrations of the weekend.
