PUTTING with cricket bats, pool cues and undersized golf clubs is in store at the upcoming Buffs Club Charity Golf Day.
The event, now in its seventh year, will see 36 teams take to the course for nine holes in Ambrose teams of four.
While some holes will be played the traditional way, others will have novelty challenges.
In years gone by people have balanced on tyres to make their shot or used anything but a golf club to putt.
This year Buffs Club executive manager Justin Wilkins said there were more surprises in store.
"We're in the process of designing what novelty games will be played this year - but I can't reveal exactly what they are just yet," he said.
"I can say it's not about how great you are at golf , it's about having fun and raising money for charity. You may be a really good golfer, but the way we score the game may mean that the person who is the best doesn't necessarily the win the prizes."
This year the proceeds from the charity golf day will go to Mount Isa School of the Air and the Royal Flying Doctor Service Auxiliary.
In 2009 the event raised $9000.
School of the Air principal Tim Moes said the funds had helped to provide valuable resources to his students.
"The past two years we have been able to replace books, desks, chairs and other property that was destroyed in children's classrooms on properties in the floods," he said.
"It really benefited the kids."
The Buffs Club Charity Gold Day is on August 28 at the Mount Isa Golf Club.
Nominations are now open.
