RON Whitehead returned to action and his aim proved too good for the competition when the Mount Isa District Bowhunters Club held its Fun Shoot at the weekend.
Whitehead fought out a tough battle with Bill Fenby and Andrew Gosper to register the shoot's top score.
Only 10-points separated the top-three as it came down to a matter of a few millimetres.
Club spokesman Tony Copelin said it proved to be a challenging day's shooting.
"Broken arrows were the order of the day for Sunday's shoot," Copelin said.
"The course was set in a natural environment with a lot of trees and large stones hiding the targets."
Copelin said it was not just the inexperienced shooters who paid the price but also the top level participants.
"I think some of the club's more senior shooters also found it a bit tough but there was still some quality marksmanship shown on the course," he said.
"It was very encouraging to see mother and son pairing Kai Gearing and Amber Thornburrow have a great day along with the Johnson family of Susan, Dylan and Luke." There were several new faces including Elena Kobyliansko and Elena McDonald and Copelin said anyone interested in joining the club was still welcome.
The Mount Isa District Bowhunters Club will continue its season with a night shoot held in the club grounds on Wednesday, February 15 at 6.30 pm.
All gear can be supplied for new shooters with experienced competitors on hand to help.
