MOUNT Isa rugby league players Rohan Shulz and Billy McConnachie will be hoping to make an impact when they head to Cairns to trial with the Northern Pride.
The opportunity presents a huge chance to make the grade and play for the Queensland Cup and North Queensland Cowboys feeder club.
Mount Isa based Queensland Rugby League (QRL) development officer Scott Kyle said the pair will travel to Cairns and spend the week training in the squad culminating with a trial game.
"This is a great chance for these talented players to further their rugby league careers and I am sure they will give it their best shot," Kyle said.
"Billy [McConnachie] and Rohan [Shulz] have shown they are pretty special players in the Mount Isa competition and in the representative teams they have played for."
Kyle said the trial came about after he bumped into Pride coach David Maidan at a QRL summer coaching camp on the coast.
"After mentioning we had a couple of handy footballer out this way David [Maidan] was receptive to the idea of giving them a shot," Kyle said.
"Hopefully the Mount Isa Rugby League (MIRL) can build a partnership with the Pride and create a pathway for more senior players to take the next step."
Former Normanton star Davin Crampton is currently holding down a centre position with the Northern Pride after being identified as a player with potential in 2011.
Shulz and McConnachie are being supported by the MIRL with funding towards their travel and accommodation for the trip.
