THE wet conditions didn't stop Euros from producing a polished opening 40 minutes of rugby to set up their win against Keas and remain undefeated in the Mount Isa Irish Club Rugby Union Premiership.
On the back of a strong game from their forwards, Euros subdued a determined Keas side 27-11 and headed into the Christmas break with a strong grasp already on the minor premiership.
Euros coach Mick O'Connor said he was extremely pleased with the side's performance in the first half.
"I think the way the team played in the opening 30 minutes was nearly perfect," he said.
"It's definitely the best rugby we've played this season. We controlled the ball, constructed our play patiently before moving the ball out wide in attack."
O'Connor said the way his side played without making too many errors with the slippery ball was a highlight of the opening period.
Winger Vili Nuku opened the scoring for Euros in the second minute when he was on the end of some slick hands from his inside backs.
The Euros' forward pack had driven the ball deep into Keas' territory before the ball was spun wide.
It was 14-nil when centre John Viiga regathered a clever kick behind the Keas' defensive line and beat the cover.
Keas got on the scoreboard through the prodigious boot of John Monu. The five-eighth made no mistake with a penalty kick from 35-metres out after a Euros indiscretion at the breakdown.
Monu closed the gap to 14-6 with another long range effort that brushed off the upright shortly before half-time.
After the break, Euros almost scored after Matt Parata's penalty attempt rebounded off the post into the path of second-rower Dan Reed.
Reed took advantage of Keas' slow reactions and crashed into the defence but was repelled metres from the line.
Parata got another chance to extend Euros' lead and this time piloted the ball through to extend the margin to 17-6.
Euros suffered a blow when Shannon McGregor was sent off after 50 minutes for a late hit on Keas' winger Stephen Batty.
Batty had found himself in space down the left touchline and looked set to score. Referee Bowden Ashton ruled Batty had been held up over the line by the initial Euros' defender before McGregor came in with a late shot.
From going agonisingly close to reducing the margin, Keas fell further behind to another Parata penalty.
Keas' substitute Joe Kitney gave his side a measure of hope late in the match when he crossed for try after some concerted pressure from his teammates.
However, Euros guaranteed their undefeated status when James George was on hand to pick up the crumbs from a Keas error. Down 20-11, Keas were attempting to run the ball from deep inside their own territory when the ball came loose.
George strolled over and Parata's conversion left the final score at 27-11.
