MOUNT Isa's Splashez Aquatic Centre will host the inaugural Far West Queensland Swimming Championships next month.
March 25 will see the centre turn into a swimming championship domain creating plenty of competition for swimmers from Mount Isa and far north Queensland.
Splashez Aquatic Centre facility manager and coach Brian Rodriquez said he was looking forward to holding such a competitive event for the first time in Mount Isa.
"Each year all the different regions around Queensland hold their own championships event," Mr Rodriquez said.
"We are a part of North Queensland who hold an event in Townsville every March, but with so many families time poor in Mount Isa, we wanted to come up with an event that holds the same weight competition wise but is an easier option than a four day trip away."
The one-day event will be open to a number of clubs across three regional Queensland swimming associations, North Queensland, Far North Queensland and Central Queensland.
"We feel it is an important step in developing swimming not just in Mount Isa but in the far west region of Queensland," Mr Rodriquez said.
"Clubs eligible to attend other than Mount Isa will be Cloncurry, Richmond, Hughenden, Julia Creek, Boulia, Winton, Longreach and Normanton."
Lane 4 Aquatics is the major sponsor for the event, but Mr Rodriquez said they are looking for more local businesses to jump on board and help sponsor what is expected to be one huge event for Mount Isa.
