Hundreds of students gathered at Spinifex State School's junior campus hall to watch on as two students, James Wilson, 14, and Thomas Cook, 15, braved the shave of their afros alongside Mrs Kostwoski.
"I decided to brave the shave this year after growing my afro and shaving it just for something to do," James said.
Thomas said he was shaving for a cure for members in his family who have been affected by illness, and for the cause.
"I really think watching my principal brave the shave today shows that it doesn't matter who you are, or what your title is, you can do it," Thomas said.
While students cheered on those shaving their heads, many other students coloured their hair for the cause.
Student Kimberly Larkin, 12, was very excited as her raffle ticket was drawn out to cut off Denise Kostowski's ponytail.
"It's a great thing for our principal to be doing for the cause," Kimberly said.
Mrs Kostowski said she was looking forward to choosing nice headbands and scarves to wear on her very bald head.
"I washed my hair on the weekend and really made sure I enjoyed it for the last time," she said.
"I'm looking forward to seeing my natural colour again grow back bit by bit."
