Released after five days receiving medical treatment, Leslie Algar and his friend Katherine Bin-Sali are now stranded in Mount Isa with only the clothes they were wearing.

"There's nothing left in the car; it's still upside down on the side of the road and people are still rummaging through it.

"They've taken all our suitcases, TV and laptop, even the spare wheel.

"What sort of people are these?" Mr Algar asked.

The pair had been re-locating from Port Lincoln to Bundaberg, so the car was packed with all their possessions.

On their release from hospital, a social worker advised them to seek accommodation at the "sobering up shelter" across the road from the hospital.

A security guard at the hospital gave him the number of Pastor Keith Christie at the Christian Outreach Centre who found accommodation for them.

A church spokeswoman said a member of the congregation was supplying the couple with a car.

"We're just getting it roadworthy and registered," she said. Mr Algar and Ms Bin-Sali said they were very grateful to the church. "We don't know what we would have done if it weren't for them," they said.

They were admitted to hospital with spinal and pelvic injuries and more than a week later they were still walking stiffly and suffering pain.

"This is the first time I've felt like walking around and talking to people," Mr Algar said.

Ms Bin-Sali cried over the loss of photographs of her children and grand-children. "What use are they to anyone else? Whoever took them should hand them in to the police."

District Crime Prevention Coordinator Sergeant Glen Arrold said police had secured two jerry cans and a small bag. Sgt Arrold said police were investigating the theft complaint regarding other property.
