Every Monday children will be able to take part in the Healthy Kids programme which utilises free, active and healthy sessions at local parks.

Member for Mount Isa, triathlete and chairperson for the Living with Lead Alliance, Robbie Katter, yesterday kicked off his shoes to enjoy the launch for 2012 among the children in attendance.

He said the fun filled sporting activities were vital in creating good, strong habits at an early age.

"Part of the initiative is to create a clean, healthy environment for the kids and the other part is to do with the lifestyle changes," Mr Katter said.

"Every kid loves getting out to have a bit of fun on the oval with activities galore, who doesn't?"

Xstrata Copper North Queensland chief operating officer Steve de Kruijff said Xstrata Healthy Kids was something the company was pleased to support.

"Throughout the 2011 programme, we received a very positive response from parents and children with over 2700 attendances," Mr de Kruijff said.

"Healthy kids is an important community health initiative that provides our local kids with fun, free and healthy activities that build their confidence and promote an active lifestyle."

Skytrans Cairns Taipans National Basketball team community operations manager Dwayne Vale was at the launch yesterday.

He said after being brought up in Mount Isa, leaving when he was 12, the programme brought a great, healthy incentive for kids to get out and have a bit of fun while making friends.

Skytrans community development manager Billy Gordon said he was proud to partner the important healthy lifestyle program for kids.

"Being a partner alongside the Living with Lead Alliance to give back to the Mount Isa community is not only extremely satisfying for SkyTrans, but we feel it's our social responsibility to become actively involved in improving the quality of life for the people."
