Stride Foundation has announced the 2012 On the Ball holiday program will be held from Monday and running until Thursday.
The program will be led by former Brisbane Lions three-time premiership player Darryl White, and former Cairns Taipans and Bulleen Boomers National Basketball League players Timmy Duggan and Sharin Milner.
White, Duggan and Milner are all former professional athletes who not only excelled in their sporting abilities but their leadership abilities throughout their careers as well.
Darryl White played 268 AFL games, and won three AFL premierships with the Brisbane Lions.
He was captain of the Indigenous All Stars in 2005 and is an Indigenous Team of the Century member.
Timmy Duggan is a former captain of the National Indigenous Basketball team, and has played a combined total of 299 games for the Cairns Taipansand the Cairns Marlins in the NBL and Australian Basketball Leagues.
Sharin Milner is a former Women's National Basketball League legend who captained the Bulleen Boomers to their first ever WNBL title.
Sharin has played 250-plus games and is rated as one of the best ever point guards to play in the WNBL
On The Ball is an exciting program for children and young people aged eight-to-16 years to exercise and have fun and to meet current and former professional Basketball and AFL players during the first week of the school holidays in Mount Isa.
There are games, prizes, showbags and lunch is provided for the participants every day.
The children and young people will get to participate in both AFL and basketball activites.
Traditionally, On the Ball has had a basketball focus however for the first time in Mount Isa we will be including an AFL element to the program and we are very lucky to have such a high calibre of coaches in Darryl, Timmy and Sharin."
The program is free and is run the Mount Isa Basketball Stadium on the corner of Jessop Drive and Sports Parade.
