Store manager Priscilla McCrindle said the two standout favourite rentals this year were the 1994 classic The Santa Claus starring Tim Allen and animated film, Arthur Christmas.
"These movies are popular with the families that come in here, it's the kind of movies that the whole family can enjoy," Ms McCrindle said.
She said other popular Christmas films were The Holiday, Four Holidays, and Love Actually.
"Love Actually is popular every year- without fail," she said.
Movie buff Ms McCrindle said she believedmovies were a popular activity at Christmas because it's a good excuse for people to sit down with family and spend time together , and a good way to escape the heat.
Blockbuster was open on Christmas Day and Ms McCrindle said they had a lot of people coming in for soft drinks and snack food and people on their own for Christmas wanting to hire movies.
"Games were also a popular hire, with kids who got consoles for Christmas," she said.
Sisters Tina Barry and Jenny Coggan visited the store on Boxing Day with five children in tow, to rent videos and stock up on snacks.
"We've got more than 10 movies today, that will keep us going for the week," Ms Barry said.
"The kids are hypo after Christmas and it's a good way to calm them down and relax together as a family."
