Arguably the most historic cafe in the city, it held a firm reputation for the "best burgers in town" according to new owner John Stringer.
He said he was excited to reopen the iconic cafe and would be introducing 24 hour diningduring weekends.
Mr Stringer said a cafe with extended hours would fill a gap in the market and has been taking on board comments and suggestions from numerous shift-worker colleagues within the mining industry.
"A lot of people claim that there is no where to eat after the pubs and clubs shut," he said.
"This will provide a decent old-fashioned meal that will be available all hours and also as an alternative to pub and club dining."
He believed the people of Mount Isa needed quality food at unconventional hours to suit shift workers.
With direct competition from fast food giant McDonalds for burgers and opening hours, Mr Stringer was convinced he could offer a premium product that would attract the customers.
"Nothing like this is currently available," he said.
"A lot of shift workers are looking for a good meal in those hours."
Mr Stinger said the menu will obviously focus on burgers, but he was excited to unveil new additions to the previous menu including Italian coffee, Italian soft serve ice cream and will be the second cafe in Australia to feature a new product called a "pizza cone".
"We have introduced an Italian focus to the menu, because we want to have the best equipment and food that we can," Mr Stringer said.
Mr Stringer said the Burger Chief had been in Mount Isa for more than 50 years, originally in another location on West Street before moving to it's current location nearly 20 years ago.
"The Burger Chief is pretty iconic and we plan to keep the history alive and become an important part of Mount Isa," he said.
Alec Turcinovic bought the Burger Chief in 1982 in the original location and moved it to it's current location when he bought the building.
Mr Turcinovic said the current shop had a wonderful history of Mount Isa cafes, originally opening as the Capital Milk Bar, before becoming Stax Cafe and finally the Burger Chief.
He and his wife ran the Burger Chief until six months ago, when he decided to close up and take it easy for a while.
Mr Turcinovic is happy that Mr Stringer has kept the name and the original concept for the cafe and has been enlisted to teach the kitchen staff how to make his famous burgers before opening day.
"I miss eating good burgers and the Burger Chief is such a good name, it will be wonderful to see it open again," he said.
Burger Chief will be open from Monday February 18.
