On the brink of contracting diabetes and suffering from a myriad of other health problems, Simon Bolton knew it was time he had a good hard look at his weight at the end of last year.
The stresses of work, an unhealthy diet and continuous weight gain left him at an uncomfortable 220 kilograms - a factor that was playing havoc with his day-to-day needs.
Not knowing where to start or who to ask for help, he turned to close friend and personal training student Billy Krause to get started on a weight loss journey that helped him lose 50 kilograms and aspire to lose another 50 kilograms over the next two years.
Mr Bolton said since starting training with Mr Krause and making a food diary, his whole outlook on life had changed.
"Once you get going you go looking for it (training) and you feel a lot better," he said.
"I have to answer to someone now and that is helpful.
"I was in a rut for a little while, only getting bigger and it was really important for me to get my mindset right."
At the start of his training, Mr Bolton knew he was strong but never thought he'd struggle with step-ups.
"I couldn't even look at them when I started," he said. "I used to have a lot of joint pain and now its all gone."
Weighing in at 164 kilograms this week and boasting a loss of 44 centimetres from his figure, Mr Bolton's pure determination has paid off.
"Now I've got the record in the Krause Health and Safety team for the shoulder press, I've done a record number of reps in one minute." "When I first started training 12 weeks ago I could only do four or five."
His personal trainer Billy Krause said he was inspired by Mr Bolton's amazing results and said if he could do it, anyone could.
"We do a 1.3 kilometer walk around my place and it took Simon 20 minutes for our first walk 13 weeks ago and since then he's made it down to 11 minutes and there's some jogging done in there," he said. "He's lost 50 kilograms... what he would have lost in fat could be up to 80 kilograms but he's put on 30 to 40 kg of lean muscle." "I'm hoping that he's an example to everyone else who's got an excuse, he will be the example that there are no excuses."
Mr Krause said he would be offering his services to other people in the community who want to follow Mr Bolton's example once he's finalised his personal training qualifications.
"Simon's long term goal is there and I'm making it my business to make sure I stick by him," he said. "It won't be about competing with the gyms, I just want to offer something tailored so people in the community can benefit from it eventually."
"I know now a lot of people can do what he's done, they just need the general nudges, motivation and the right mindset."
