"I have these epileptic fits and I forgot to bring it inside that night," Mr Letts said.
When the local Harley Owners Group (HOG) contacted Isa Mobility Solutions with a cheque for $500, Naomi Lindenberg knew exactly where it should go - on a new wheelie walker for Mr Letts.
Mr Letts said he was delighted with the donation.
"The bearings on my old walker had gone and it costs nearly as much for new wheels as it does to buy a new machine.
"If it wasn't for people like the HOG, the cost would have to come out of my pension, and with costs going up, there's not much there.
"I really appreciate what these guys are doing."
Ms Lindenberg, manager of Mount Isa Community Development Association which runs Isa Mobility Solutions, said she the donation came at the really good time for one of their mobility clients.
"The HOG's donation is greatly appreciated."
She said she hoped the person who stole the walker needs one when they get old.
"It's a disgraceful thing to do," she said.
HOG director Xenia Schraag said the group raises money with various events around Mount Isa.
"When we have enough money we give it to the next group on the list.
"It was just lucky that we raised this money in time for it to benefit John," Ms Schraag said.
The money was raised in Mount Isa and always went to needy groups in Mount Isa, she said.
