Family Day Care owner Elaine Hardwick said she was excited to have the Smurf move in.
"We are super excited to be his new parents," she said.
The 25-year-old smurf was made by Laurie Fray for a service station on Barkly Highway and had been lying derelict in a yard for more than two years after a tumultous life, which included taking regular joy rides with locals.
He now has his own Facebook account and a community page on Facebook.
"We created his account on Monday and he already has 122 friends," Mrs Hardwick said.
Creator Laurie Fray said it was wonderful the smurf had found a new home at Family Day Care.
"It's a very good place for him to go," Mr Fray said.
