The 51-year-old father of three from the Sunshine Coast will ride from Australia to the United Kingdom to take his mother's ashes back to her birthplace after she lost a nine year battle with dementia in 2012.
The 19,000 kilometre ride will see Mr Brown travel around Australia and then across the globe to raise money for Neuroscience Research Australia.
Mr Brown's mother Pat struggled with dementia for nine years and during this time, she lived with her son for the first six months, before moving to a low care facility on the Sunshine Coast and later moving into high care.
"Towards the end of her life, my mum spoke a lot of England, she missed England, and asked me to take her home," Mr Brown said.
Beginning his quest, Mr Brown will travel to Mount Isa, Alice Springs, down to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and back to the Sunshine Coast before transporting himself and his motorbike to Russia to continue the journey, while carrying his mother's ashes back to her birthplace and laying them next to that of her mother's in the village's tiny cemetery.
With almost 280,000 Australians living with dementia and more than one million people providing support and care, Neuroscience Research Australia Foundation director Roewan Wishart wished Mr Brown the best of luck on his journey.
"We hope that, through his Ride to Remember, Paul will raise awareness of the debilitating disease of dementia and its burden on caregivers," he said.
"Community fundraising provides important support for medical research conducted at Neuroscience Research Australia." Mr Brown welcomes anyone to join him during the ride.
