Former Hughenden cowboy Clancy Middleton ventures back to the North West for the rodeo and will be one of the short-priced favourites to take out the three timed events.
Middleton, who now resides in Emerald, won the aggregate in the rope and tie at last month’s National Finals Rodeo ot the Gold Coast, and will be looking to back up with a dominant performance in Richmond.
Lamar Cox will be aiming to shine in front of a vocal home crowd and along with Middleton, will be one of the cowboys to watch in the rope and tie event.
In what’s expected to be one of the most hotly-contested rope and tie events in recent history in Richmond, Cox and Middleton lead a field of 17 cowboys desperate to claim bragging rights, with Central Queensland-based competitors Shane Kenny and Michael Stanley also likely to feature at the pointy end of the results list.
Bull rides are always a crowd favourite at any rodeo and the APRA event in Richmond will be no different, with quality riders set to go head-to-head with a fearsome pen of bulls when the chutes fly open.
Richmond resident Darren Brandenburg is renowned for supplying top quality bulls across the country and will bring out the best of the best for his hometown rodeo, with bulls like Big Brian, Arachnaphobia, Suicidal Blonde and Urban Hippie set to test the skill and mettle of the riders.
The action kicks off at the Richmond rodeo grounds at 2pm on Saturday.
