A MOUNT Isa man was charged in Cairns yesterday after he was involved in a crash which took a female cyclist's life.

The 19-year-old Soldiers Hill resident was driving on the Captain Cook Highway in Cairns at around 7:15am on Saturday morning when he collided with the cyclist near Thomatis Creek.
The 37-year-old woman, well-known sporting identity and half ironman competitor Tanya Roneberg, died at the scene.
The driver allegedly recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.076 after the accident.
He is expected to appear at the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 17 charged with the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and drink driving.
