A media release received by The North West Star from a Katter's Australian Party email address this week said the party's stance was in doubt with only 300 members remaining from a once 3000-strong group, and internal conflict was keeping the party from endorsing a senate candidate.
Mr Katter, the party's state leader, said the email, which was from former member Terri Bell, was simply a disgruntled ex-member aiming to distribute negative media.
"Anyone can make a Gmail address, that address is not authorised by KAP," he said.
"Everyone's entitled to their opinion but for us the only worry with members is trying to get more resources after getting starved of funding from government.
"We're still the fastest-growing party in Australia and I'd imagine we would be approaching some of the major parties for their numbers."
Ms Bell had claimed the membership drop was due to Bob Katter's erratic behaviour, the party's homophobic media outbursts and a lack of a stable administrative team.
She said she had also made a formal complaint to the Australian Electoral Commission as she believed the party had accessed her private Facebook account and changed her password.
"I have been left with an extremely bad taste in my mouth from this whole political experience," she said.
"I joined Katter's Australian Party as I wanted to help change the course of this nation and create a sustainable and regulation free environment for my children to grow up in, one of which is disabled."
Mr Katter said a decline in memberships was misrepresented and was due to a mix-up of resources rather than a lack of confidence in the party.
Ms Bell has now left KAP and joined the Shooters and Fishers Party.
