The Department of Transport and Main Roads has finished removing the two T2 lanes from the Pacific Motorway between Klumpp Road at Mt Gravatt and Eight Mile Plains.

Brisbane City Council has also removed T2 lanes on Coronation Drive.

Stretton MP Freya Ostapovitch said the former government installed T2 lanes on the Pacific Motorway more than a decade ago in a bid to to encourage carpooling.

“Unfortunately carpooling just didn't work," she said.

"And it left motorists frustrated as they would sit in a congested lane while the T2 lane was left under capacity."

Removing the T2 two lanes from the five-kilometre stretch Pacific Motorway has cost $2.5 million, half the government's expected cost.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said the lanes were removed well before the October deadline, announced at Easter.

“In less than 13 weeks we have been able to open this section of the Pacific Motorway to eight lanes," Mr Emerson said.

“The cost to deliver this simple solution came in at half of what we were expecting to spend, which means those savings can be re-directed into bridge protection works on this section of the Pacific Motorway."

Safety barriers near bridges in the section of the Pacific Motorway have been added.

Mansfied MP Ian Walker welcomed the additional room for motorists.

“As the department continue to monitor the traffic I look forward to seeing how the travel times have improved over the coming months,” he said.
