The crew of around 50 people from Brisbane, Townsville, Cairns and a few still in Mount Isa have devised a full four-day program of activities for the weekend which will see them visit their old school grounds and catch up with social events.
Organiser Jeff Truscott said the reunion had been organised primarily through Facebook group Mount Isa School Friends, which has more than 1200 members.
"It's been going for about two years now and is mostly made up of those who attended school in the '60s and 70's," he said.
"We're planning a float in Friday night's mardi gras at rodeo where we'll dress in our old school uniforms and bring back the old things we had like the milk bottles that were delivered to the school and nuns with the rulers measuring girls' uniforms.
"We want people to be able to see what we're doing and say 'gee I remember that when we were going to school'."
Mr Truscott said in particular the group was looking forward to touring its old school grounds and coming back as adults not scared of what their teen selves were.
"We'll have a look around Central and Barkly and the other primary schools but then we'll head to the old Isa State High where there was an area we all called 'Wog Valley', and it was an area you just never went to and we had a total fear so it'll be a kick to get a photo of us all sitting there," he said.
Mr Truscott said other events on the program included a dinner function and barbecue at the lake, as well as attending rodeo events.
He said anyone still in the region who had attended school in Mount Isa during those decades was welcome to join the Facebook group by searching 'Mount Isa School Friends'.
