Today they are still standing strong and will be celebrated by the community during Queensland Small Business Week that started yesterday.
Oasis Fashion and Wedding World co-owner Gayle Martin said some people could be apprehensive about opening a business with so many partners but said she wouldn't have it any other way.
"Having four of us definitely makes it a lot easier, we all have our own role to play," she said.
"I am the buyer, Lisa is the brains and the accountant, Jacqui creates the window displays and Tina is our cleaner and tells us when we have too much stock."
Mrs Martin described her style as simple fashion, preferring to order classic items rather than short-lived trends.
It is evident when you walk through the door that their operation is fully focused on the customer.
"We try to look after our loyal customers and get things in to suit them, the ones that come in time after time...we know a lot of women in Mount Isa with secret bank accounts," she laughed.
Mrs Martin said during the next seven days people should think about supporting their local small businesses.
"There is a lot of internet shopping here now and that really affects us, each year is gets a little worse," she said.
"People still want to go to a boutique but they can't have it both ways. When the things they order online don't turn up that's usually when they come to us so you need to have your local in town."
Queensland Small Business Week began yesterday and runs through until July 31. It celebrates the contribution small business makes to Queensland.
A number of events are being held around the state including buy local Saturday.
In Mount Isa, a Location Has No Boundaries Breakfast will be held on Monday.
