Lyrical linguists warm up for rodeo time with Bush Poet's Breakfast

IT'S a sure sign that the Xstrata Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo is just around the corner when you hear the call of bush poets. Lyrical linguists are warming-up the vocal chords and getting ready to perform at the annual Bush Poet's Breakfast on Wednesday.This year, Mount Isa regulars Pat Fennell and Val Brown will take the stage alongside Keith Douglas from Cloncurry.There will also be new faces with youngsters Jack Muller and Tia Bird - both still at school - performing at the breakfast.The Bush Poet's Breakfast is now in its seventh year and it's hosted by the Zonta Club of Mount Isa.Organiser Di Heggan said it was popular as ever."A lot of our travellers love to come to the breakfast each year because it's an iconic event," she said."It's the first official event of the Isa Rodeo."She said the breakfast is about keeping bush culture alive."It's all about our culture and things that have happened throughout our lives here," she said."So let's hope it keeps going. I just enjoy it every year."The event is on at the Buffs Club at 6.30am next Wednesday.Tickets are still available at The Buffs Club reception and cost $20 for children under 12-years-old and $30 for adults. It's advised that those interested pre-book tickets to the popular event.
