Mount Isa's premier event on the social calendar, the Bell and Moir Toyota Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo Ball didn't disappoint, with all the glitz and glamour it's renowned for, on display.
Five local organisations are now also collectively $100,000 better off thanks to the efforts of this year’s Rodeo Queen Quest entrants.
But the major drawcard of the night was the crowning of Charity and Rodeo Queens for 2013.
Cara Nolan, fundraising for the Mount Isa PCYC was named Charity Queen after raising an impressive $33, 619.
Laura Johnson Home fundraiser Lucy Williams was crowned Rodeo Queen after accumulating the most points through compliance, rotary meeting speeches, mystery judge points, and panel judging.
Ms Williams struggled to find the words to describe what she called one of the happiest days of her life.
"I'm lost for words, it is a 100 per cent honour, not only to be part of the quest but then to be crowned the Queen at the end of it is an absolute honour,” she said."
Ms Nolan quoted Winston Churchill in her acceptance speech by outlining that 'we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give'.
"This moment is bigger than me, this moment is for the tireless work that the amazing team at the PCYC do year in, year out," she said. Both winners agreed that after next week's Rodeo they would enjoy a little bit of a break and a lot of sleep, however looked forward to continuing to support their chosen charities long after the quest and Rodeo Week are over. Queen Quest coordinator Louise Brogden said all five queen Quest entrants deserved a crown.
"I wish there were five crowns to reward you all for your hard work, passion, enthusiasm and dedication,” she said. You're all worthy of being Charity or Rodeo Queens."
Crown or no crown, the five ladies are all winners in the eyes of the Mount Isa community.
