Tash Jessen achieved a life-long dream on Saturday night when she was crowned Rodeo Queen at the Bell and Moir Toyota Rodeo Ball.
"Rodeo Queen has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to participate," beamed the primary school teacher. "Rodeo queens are my type of princesses, hard-working and hands-on. "It's not all about hair and make-up, it's about a commitment and passion for rodeo and Mount Isa."
Ms Jessen said her passion for rodeo had grown stronger now she has won the quest. "I get to live and breathe my dream at the biggest rodeo in the southern hemisphere," she said.
Queen Tash was joined in the quest by Lucy Dungavell and Martha De Best, who was crowned Charity Queen, with $28, 038.95 raised for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Almost $80, 000 was raised by the three contestants, with Ms De Best topping Ms Jessen's fund-raising total of $27, 114.75.
Rodeo manager Patricia Esdaile said the evening was a huge success.
"The food was excellent, the entertainment was great and everyone looked fabulous," she said.
"It was the best rodeo ball I have attended to date. Now we have an exciting week of rodeo to look forward to."
Ms De Best said she plans on continuing her fund-raising efforts for the RFDS in the Spirit of Queensland quest later this year. She had good advice for anyone wanting to participate next year.
"You need to have a passion for the charity you are raising money for," Ms Jessen said. "You also need a dedicated team behind you, who are willing to support you in everything you do."
