With the most accumulated points throughout the weekend, Cody beat contenders of all ages to take out the prestigious award, earning himself a special buckle and $1500 in prize money.

Sponsored by North West Crane Hire, the annual award has been a highlight of the rodeo, celebrating Mount Isa's own breed of special talents.

Cody's point tally grew after he entered junior steer, second division bull and barrel race, earning himself the second place prize for junior steer.

Cody said his recent success would encourage him to carve out a career as a professional bull rider.

"It makes me more keen to keep going," he said.

Xstrata Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo manager Donna Kuskopf said she was delighted to hand over the award to Cody.

"I'm over the moon for him, you can tell he has a lot of passion for the sport," she said.
