"We had 51 cars and bikes and over 400 people, most of whom stayed for two nights in Boulia," Cr Hammond said.
It was the second year the Mount Isa Drag Racing and Hotrod Association has held the drag races on the Boulia airstrip.
"It won the Event of the Year award this year for the Boulia Australia Day awards," Cr Hammond said.
The shire council was looking to build its own drag strip in Boulia, he said.
