THE organiser of this year's Cloncurry Merry Muster, Peta McIntyre, said she believed the increase in numbers at last weekend's festival was caused by an influx of caravanners to the town.

"It's hard to gauge but there were definitely plenty of travellers and I noticed that particularly on the Sunday morning at the Bush Poets and Campfire Breakfast," Ms MacIntyre said.
Anecdotally a lot of them were already travelling and had booked ahead at the town's caravan parks, and some were staying in town on friends' properties, she said.
The relief park manager at Cloncurry's Discovery Caravan Park, Ashley Milton-Rogers said they were booked out for the entire weekend, "and still are".
"We have 30 or 40 caravan sites, but as more people came in, we were making up extra sites and probably accommodated 50 caravans all up," Mr Milton-Rogers said.
The extra guests were allocated to unpowered sites, he said.
The Oasis Caravan Park had 80 powered sites but still went over capacity, according to owner, Christine Ballard.
"We had many more guests than last year, but we sought to accommodate everyone, and only turned one person away," Ms Ballard said.
"It was excellent for business and good for the town," she said.
"I get to go on holiday this year.
"Next year we'll have to make allowances for the extra people and do things a little differently," she said.
