Traversing the top end in 2016, Mount Isa has the opportunity to secure the ‘Da Vinci Machines’ exhibition as it travels en route from Tennant Creek to Townsville.
The Mount Isa City Council is hoping to secure a spot on the touring calendar if residents are keen for a bit of culture.
On loan from the Museum of Leonardo Da Vinci in Florence, the world class exhibition will bring Da Vinci’s finest pieces of engineering and renowned works of art to our doorstep, allowing the community to explore innovations of cultural, scientific and artistic significance.
The exhibit will cost the council $22,000 and Mayor Tony McGrady wants to be sure of community support before committing to the price tag.
“This kind of opportunity is not often afforded to regional cities so I am keen to gauge interest before it passes us by,” he said.
“It allows residents and especially school children the opportunity to see up close works of extraordinary artistic and scientific merit as well as high educational interest.”
The exhibit includes Da Vinci’s civil and war machines, devices, futuristic flight and submersible craft together with reproductions of some of the world’s most famous artworks and rare copies of the Da Vinci Codices plus a host of educational material.
Expressions of support to attend the ‘Da Vinci Machines’ exhibition can be made through Council’s Facebook page or by calling Customer Service on 4747 3200, emailing city@mountisa.qld.gov.au or visiting the council offices in West Street.
